Whole House Duct Cleaning and Dryer Vent Cleaning

Have you ever flipped through the newspaper on a Sunday morning and noticed how many ads there are for duct cleanings? It seems like every carpet cleaners in the city considers themselves to also be duct cleaners also. If that wasn’t hard enough to believe you then have a look at their prices. I wouldn’t think that it is possible to do an entire house duct cleaning for as little as $69 or and unlimited number of vent cleanings for only $149. There has got to be a catch!

All it takes is a little simple math. For 2 servicemen making approximately $15 an hour to clean the duct work correctly it would take at the bare minimum 4 hours. The cost of labor alone is at least $120 at this point. But we cannot forget to account for the cost of the truck, the duct cleaning machine, advertising, and any other costs associated with keeping a company in business as well as allowing them to do a good job. At this point the cost to the company is at least $300, and that is the cost without making any profit.

So, as an informed consumer it makes you wonder how it is possible for these companies to turn a profit when the only charge $69. The answer is simple…They can’t! That price is just an gimmick to get in your from door. From there they will up sell you. What is up selling you ask? It is when the serviceman tells you that you not only need the duct cleaning but also sanitizer, deep cleaning, UV lights, and the list goes on and on! You don’t want to be one of the people who fall for these scams.

You must educate yourself before hiring any company to do a duct or dryer vent cleaning. A good place to start would be the EPA’s website. They for instance say that a legitimate duct cleaning should cost anywhere from $500 to $1000 and take from 4 to 6 hours to complete. Another tip is to make sure that your service company offers only technicians who are NADCA certified. NADCA is the only duct cleaning authority that certifies duct cleaning technicians in the proper duct cleaning practices. Finally, I recommend that you check out YouTube’s video concerning duct cleaning scams. Once you know the facts you will be able to sort out the trustworthy companies from those who are just trying to rip you off.
