Lower Your Energy Bills with Attic Insulation
We all want to save money by lowering our energy bills and home heating and cooling cost, discover the benefits of improving and increasing the amount of attic insulation in your home. Insulation keeps cool air and warm air from mixing, when they do mix it causes your heating & cooling system to work harder to keep temperatures consistent. Inadequate insulation, gaps and leaks in your home will cause your heating and cooling system to run longer and more often in order to maintain temperature in your home, wasting energy and resulting in higher energy bills.

How Much Attic Insulation Do I Need?
A quick way to see if you need more insulation is to look across your uncovered attic floor. If your insulation is level with or below the attic floor joists, you probably need to add more insulation. In the coldest climates, insulating up to R-60 is recommended. R-Value is the value given to insulation products that states their resistance to heat flow, with increasing values providing more insulation. An R factor of R-60 means you should have approximately 21” of insulation in your attic. Older homes tend to have less insulation than modern homes and overtime insulation settles causing the density to decrease. Adding Attic Insulation qualifies for up to a 10% U.S. government tax credit in 2011. Over time, additional attic insulation can pay for itself by cutting energy bills by 20 – 30% or up to 10% annually on total annual energy bills.
